“Strength,” Savanna Coen
From this 13-year-old girl’s debut album, “Strength” is the only original on the CD.
Coen fell in love with the blues, and does capable renditions of classics such as “The Thrill Is Gone” and “At Last” on her first album. But she is most appealing when she sings songs closer to things that she has likely experienced in her life, which is why “Feeling Good” works a little better than “At Last.”
Her own song is my favorite, and she said she wrote it in just a half-hour. This one has more of a mainstream pop sensibility, and it suits her.
We can look forward to watching her grow and develop, and she is off to a great start.
